Xmas Open House

Well, I managed to trek through the snow last week from Brighton to London to visit the Graffik London Gallery in the Portobello road. Tommy & Jem are running a great little gallery space there selling some fantastic urban art and they have a garden full of graffiti. Drop in if you are nearby.

The photo above is part of my Open House exhibition at The Bell pub in Brighton, I get to spend the whole weekend there talking to drunk people about art. Come along for a chat and a beer or head over to the New Steine Hotel in Kemptown to see my exhibition showing there until January 2011.

After the graffiti workshop thing I was asked to do a stencil workshop for the kids in a local school.
They are pretty hot on the urban art thing.
So now I've found myself working on a mural with a group of 9 & 10 year olds.
Its brilliant fun, and they are loving being allowed to paint on the walls.

Also I have an exhibition of new artwork which opens in two weeks.
- Showing at the New Steine Hotel in Brighton from 6th Nov until 2nd Jan 2011.

Bring on the Bikini DogGirls.
Its been a fun month.
I did my first grown-ups graffiti workshop for a Stag do,
along with the brilliant Limbo who paints freehand old school graffiti.
I did a few stencils and we customised some t-shirts with the Funky DogGirls. Thanks to the Wet Paint posse for organizing it all so well.

And I was asked to paint at the WestWay arches in Portobello road for the Shiftwork project. Check it out at the Notting Hill carnival this weekend. See you at Graffik.

Upfest Birthday

It was my birthday at the begining of the month & I got a chance to paint at Upfest in Bristol with the brilliant street artist TWAT. click here to see more of his work.
He was throwing paint around like a crazy man. It took me a week to get it all off my sunglasses.
I had a great time meeting some fantastic artists and watching art in the making.

Its been a great weekend of live painting in Brighton, at The Beautiful & The Canned event, thanks to all the Wet Paint crew who put in so much hard work to make it all happen, and for running the gallery all weekend.

I went for a stroll to see the "Precious" show at the Hove Museum today.
Great stuff made of rubbish. Brilliant automata from Circus Kinetica

Also been creating some full scale tape sculptures for the Secret Garden Party.

It was my birthday last weekend & we travelled to Bristol for my first Upfest experience.
We turned up late, painted quickly then got drunk early!

I got to paint next to Please Flush, and bumped into loads of great artists all day,
& even got filmed at work!!

Just completed this 4 colour stencil on vinyl,
to be used as a logo for Shimbartoe records.

Now getting down to the details of organizing some live art at the Beachdown festival in Brighton this August bank holiday.

& just got 2,500 flyers printed for this years Open House Festival, with T.Wat & Gary Jones.

Snow Dogs

Snow, snow snow.
It has been a crazy month so far.
The snow never settles here by the sea.
But it did this year!
Nice & thick & crunchy so you couldn't get to work.

Then a large herd of photographers invaded the beach, all trying to get the best picture of the Old West Pier covered in snow.

I was there at 7am watching the sunrise & taking photos on my phone.

It has been busy as usual. I used up all my B&W cans & made a load of new work.
Ready for a good show.

Most of them will find there way to the funkiest shop in Brighton - Flawless in Kensington Gnds.

Meanwhile I met up with Snub23 last week to trade a bit of artwork. So now I'm the pround owner of a wicked limited edition Snub screenprint.

- goes nicely with my Hutch print that Mrs FRD bought me for my birthday this year.

Meeting Snub was cool, he introduced me to a great new Artspace in Brighton where they regularly have guest artists painting on the walls and DJ's doing their thing. So I will be returning at the end of the month to catch up again, and get involved if I can.

This month also see the opening of the Vinyl Record exhibition in New York.
I have five pieces in the show, just wish I could go out there to see them up!

Funky Dog Farts Art!!

WoofWoof Woof, Morning all.
the dog has been busy as usual.
I stocked up on B&W spray paint last week so I've had my mask on every night since!
I've also started screen printing again, which is something I love.
Its all acrylic inks these days so it doesn't have the potent chemical smell i remember.
But it does open up a whole world of stencils with islands, half tone dots, letters & funky stuff. only draw back is it takes a too long to dry, not quick like spraypaint.
So I bought my first hairdryer!! for speed-drying.
It would be great to get a little production line going so i could produce a load of big stickers, posters and t-shirts to dish out.
I'll let you know when i got it fine tuned
might take me a while though 'cos i got all these tins to get through.

Woof woof woof.
i was lucky enough to be invited down to the All Ends Up warehouse party in London last weekend. They have large scale artworks on the walls by legendary Mode2, Mitchy Bwoy and Steff Plaetz from the Scrawl collective. They kindly locked me in for the afternoon and allowed me to vandalize the place with my big dog stickers and a giant Funky Afro Girl stencil on the wall.
Unfortunately i didn't get a spare hour to pop into the Foundry on Old street to see some of the new Snub artwork that is on exhibition there, so i may be back in London soon to catch up on that one.

Woof Woof woof,
I've bin workin hard, as usual. lotsa dogs stuff. I've posted my giant dog posters off to America for the Tunnel Project in California.
Today i stenciled a few vinyls to send to new York for the 12inch exhibition, Gill Scott-Heron (pictured), Miles Davies & a few Funky Afro Girls.
But the most exciting news is that i might get a chance to get some of my dog wallpaper up at the next All Ends Up warehouse party in London.
this is a great opportunity for me to get some of my work up alongside Mitchy Bwoy and Mode2.
Bliss. bring it on...

It has been a busy weekend, Pride festival was in town & took over the streets.
I have been running around stenciling pictures to fill spaces on walls.
I've just got a load of new work up at Flawless, the coolest clothes shop in Brighton Laines. They do have the funkiest t-shirts. Check them out if you are in Brighton.

It looks like we might be taking Spot-the-Dog to Bestival.
With a special new Barcode feature built in to his spots or something.
When you photograph the barcode with a digital camera, it allows you access to exclusive FunkyRedDog website footage. very hi-tech.

Well, I've finished the large spotty dog posters for the Tunnel project in California, gotta post 'em today. Can't wait to see the pics of them up.
I've also had 5 pieces selected to be in an exhibition of stencils on vinyl in a small gallery in New York. Pretty cool.
And I got a call from the IO gallery in Brighton to say they have sold another couple of pieces this week. All going good. I'm going to pop down there to drop of a load of my new postcards into a couple of cool shops in town. Check out the Flawless clothes shop in Kensington gardens for loads of original FunkyRedDog artwork, right in the heart of The North Laine.
I seem to have been working too hard over the last couple of days and worn myself out before the Pride festival this weekend in Brighton. But it will still be fun!!!

I spent all day in the sweltering heat, stenciling spotty dogs & big woofs for The Tunnel Project in California.
they looking good. black & grey on white paper, double A0 in height . i hope they will look great on the concrete tunnel wall.

I did a bit of a Tim Head tribute today and cut out my first big barcode stencil.
it's about A2 size. i guess i could go bigger.
I've always loved barcodes, the ultimate image of form following function.
i used to collect them off the side of packets, & paint them on the side of canvasses.
the idea of a hidden code always pulled me in. Something you could see & couldn't quite understand, but new that somebody else could decipher. like a foreign language.

I haven't had a chance to put up any funky stickers lately & it's killing me...
i got so many ideas for a great campaign, but i gotta get them stickers out there.
imagine if you lost your dog, you would be out all night putting posters on every tree and bus shelter in the area until you were sure that everybody would see them.

I have recently returned from the Dalmatia coast,
where i had to go to put up a few spotty dog stickers at
The Garden Festival in Croatia & eat dalmatian steak.

Now i am back in Brighton & currently suffering from fumes. lovely!
i just stenciled a giant spotty dog paste-up,
then found an extra stencil to give it all another layer of colour.
it'll look much better, so i'm gonna do 'em again.

spent the whole evening wiv a scalpel in me hand.
cutting giant speach bubbles and dog spots.
gotta get it all done and posted off to California this week for the Tunnel Project.
